AURELIA

'AURELIA' is composed of luminous, flowing structures that resemble both organic wings and sculptural ribbons of color, suggesting the unseen energies that guide cycles of growth, dissolution, and renewal.

A defining element of the sculpture is its use of backlighting, which transforms the work from a static object into a luminous presence; light emanates from behind the butterfly’s wings, diffusing softly through their layered forms. Symbolically, the radiance created by the backlighting can represent inner illumination. In many spiritual traditions, light is associated with awakening, consciousness, and the emergence of wisdom from within.

Bacou is interested in working with highly recognizable, consumerist symbols; icons that circulate widely through popular culture, and recontextualizing them within a more stylized and intricate visual framework. Here, the butterfly appears as an almost kitsch representation of spirituality.

Sculpted in ZBrush, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Maya and Redshift.

Floral Mirrors

Mirrors traditionally serve a simple purpose: reflection. This project explores how a mirror can become something more; a sculptural object, a spatial centerpiece, and an emotional experience within a room. Floral Mirrors is a series of large-scale functional mirror designs framed by intricate, flowing botanical forms. Each piece transforms the boundary of the mirror into a living structure of petals, vines, and organic movement, creating an object that sits between fine art, sculpture, and functional design. The mirror becomes not just something you look into,  but something you look at.

The design language draws inspiration from botanical growth, baroque ornamentation, and contemporary digital sculpture. Instead of a static frame, the mirror’s edge unfolds into layered floral forms that appear to grow outward from the reflective surface. Petals twist, stems curl, and blossoms emerge as if the mirror itself is blooming. The goal was to create a frame that feels; Organic but intentional, decorative yet sculptural and luxurious but contemporary.

Sculpted in ZBrush, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Maya and Redshift.
