Translating Mila Useche into 3D

This project explores the translation of painting into three-dimensional digital form.

The work is inspired by the paintings of Mila Useche, whose expressive characters combine childlike drawing, exaggerated emotion, and playful distortion. Her figures often sit in a space between innocence and tension, where loose marks and imperfect forms become central to the storytelling.

Rather than recreating the painting directly, I approached the artwork as a conceptual blueprint. The goal was to reinterpret the visual language of the original piece in three dimensions while preserving the childlike wonder, spontaneity, and emotional energy that define her work.

       
     
Process

Paintings exist in a flat world of color and gesture. Translating them into 3D requires deciding how those gestures behave when they gain physical presence.

In this piece, scribbled lines become sculptural elements, painterly textures transform into surfaces that respond to light, and flattened shapes gain volume and weight. The characters remain intentionally imperfect; retaining the uneven geometry and expressive distortions that give the original painting its personality.

Rather than aiming for realism, the focus was on preserving the playful, slightly chaotic quality of the source material.
